The“2050 Carbon Neutrality” initiative will be swiftly implemented with high-quality policies

□ The Office for Government Policy Coordination (hereinafter referred to as The Office for Government Policy Coordination) held the
second Pan-Ministerial* Task Force(T/F) meeting presided by Koo Yun-cheol, Minister for Government Policy Coordination to promote
“2050 Carbon Neutrality” without delay.
* Participating Ministries: Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Financial Services Commission, Forest Service, etc.
□ Following the first meeting, this meeting reviewed the progress of the 「2050 Carbon Neutrality Scenarios」and the implementation status of the 「2050 Carbon Neutrality Promotion Strategy」by task.
ㅇ In the first half of this year, we reviewed the progress* in preparing the “2050 Carbon Neutrality Scenarios,” including reductions in all sectors of society, and discussed ways to expand expert participation in the Technical Working Group(W/G) and relevant Ministries.
* 10 divisions (controlling overall, conversion, industry, transportation, building, livestock and fisheries, waste, sink, CCUS, hydrogen) composed of 82 experts recommended by different Ministries and held 36 meetings from December 2020 to February 2021.
ㅇ Additionally, we focused on the implementation tasks for each sector of the 「2050 Carbon Neutrality Promotion Strategy (December 7, 2020)」and had in-depth discussions on strategies to implement the tasks that were completed first, in addition to supplementing existing tasks and new ones.
* Establishment of climate risk management supervision implementation plan (Finance Services Commission), and establishment of carbon-neutral technological innovation promotion strategy (Ministry of Science and ICT), etc.
** Manpower training support for carbon neutrality (Ministry of Employment and Labor), National Pension ESG investment expansion (Ministry of Health and Welfare), etc.
□ Koo Yun-cheol, Minister for Government Policy Coordination mentioned, “as carbon neutrality is a long-term project for the entire society, it is necessary to continuously supplement and develop possible new tasks”. Additionally, Minister Koo Yun-cheol mentioned that “we requested that the Ministries that have not participated in the establishment of the 'Carbon Neutrality Strategy (12.7)' identify possible tasks that could be implemented in their capacities.”
ㅇ Moreover, Minister Koo emphasized that “2050 carbon neutrality should be pursued quickly as a core national policy, but the tasks must be continuously supplemented through communication with a wide range of stakeholders, including industry, civic and social groups, and experts.”
