gather to increase the implementation capabilities for “2050 Carbon Neutrality”!
The Office of Government Policy Coordination held the 4th Pan-Ministerial Task Force(T/F) meeting to implement the 「2050 Carbon Neutrality Promotion Strategy」
- Koo Yun-cheol, Minister for Government Policy Coordination said, “Now is the time to increase the feasibility of achieving carbon neutrality in 2050. Please make efforts to improve the implementation capabilities of the promotion strategy such as implementation tasks and cooperation between Ministries.”
□ The Office for Government Policy Coordination (hereinafter referred to as The Office for Government Policy Coordination) held the 4th Pan-Ministerial Task Force(T/F) meeting* presided over by Koo Yun-cheol, Minister for Government Policy Coordination to promote “2050 Carbon Neutrality” without any setbacks.
* April 28 (Wednesday), 4 pm (video conference between Seoul-Sejong-Daejeon Government Complex), 43 central administrative agencies including the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport attended
ㅇ Following the 3rd T/F meeting, all central administrative agencies gathered again to discuss ways to achieve carbon neutrality.
□ As agenda items for the meeting, ① “2050 Carbon Neutrality” new tasks and ② “2050 Carbon Neutrality Promotion Strategy” detailed tasks were reviewed.
ㅇ All central administrative agencies gathered efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by continuously discovering tasks and discovered a total of 41 new tasks (including 10 tasks* from newly participating Ministries).
* ▵2 cases including Complete digitalization of criminal justice procedures (Ministry of Justice), ▵4 cases including raising youth awareness of carbon neutrality (Ministry of Gender Equality and Family), ▵support for production of carbon-neutral broadcasting programs (KCC), ▵2 cases including promotion of the introduction of eco-friendly ships (Korea Coast Guard), ▵preferential support for industrial support personnel for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) related to low-carbon industry (Military Manpower Administration)
ㅇ At the same time, we reviewed measures to increase the effectiveness of the implementation tasks by examining the performance and plans of each Ministry's implementation of carbon neutrality tasks.
□ Koo Yun-cheol, Minister for Government Policy Coordination, asked, “This meeting is to be held ahead of the launch of the Commission in May, I would like to ask each agency to actively participate in the establishment of a carbon-neutrality promotion system.”
ㅇ In addition, he encouraged “each Ministry to come up with mid-to-long-term strategies to cover all areas under their jurisdiction while continuously discovering new tasks.”
ㅇ He added, “I ask you to closely review the tasks and projects promoted by other Ministries and improve quality of detailed tasks, such as improving cooperation in necessary benchmarking areas.”
ㅇ Finally, he asked, “As COVID-19 circumstance witnesses, new infectious diseases and viruses may continue to occur caused by climate change, it is necessary to get prepared with countermeasures preemptively in the climate change adaptation field, etc. building upon carbon neutrality implementation.”
