President Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jung-sook, on a state visit to Indonesia, attended the official welcoming ceremony at Istana Bogor (the Bogor Palace), the executive office and official residence of President Joko Widodo. The Indonesian President is known to especially prize this palace for its beautiful and spacious yards and botanical gardens, featuring some 3,500 species of tropical plants. Recently, President Widodo made a special decision to open the palace grounds to the public to mark the 535th anniversary of the palace gardens.
The ceremony was held on the white veranda overlooking the glistening palace gardens after a tropical rain shower. The honor guard commander reported the arrival of President Moon and First Lady Kim, which was followed by the playing of the national anthems of the two countries and the firing of a 21-gun salute. After reviewing the honor guard, President Moon and First Lady Kim were greeted by a welcoming delegation of Indonesian children. President Joko Widodo and his wife then received the Korean First Couple and guided them to the veranda for their conversation.
