The first day of President Moon Jae-in’s state visit to China was primarily devoted to economy-related events. President Moon attended a Korea-China Business Roundtable and Business Forum, which were jointly held by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. There, the President underscored the importance of economic cooperation between the two countries.
President Moon’s visit to China came in the year marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and China. In his address today, President Moon proposed the three principles and eight ways for working together for economic collaboration over the next 25 years. The President’s attendance today is expected to provide an opportunity for economic exchanges in the private sector, which had slowed, to restart in earnest and for businesses in both countries to increase cooperation.
A total of 246 Korean businesses and organizations and about 200 Chinese companies and institutions participated in the forum, demonstrating the high interest of the business communities in both nations. The delegation accompanying President Moon for business-related events, including the forum today, was composed of 305 heads of Korean firms and organizations, the largest of its kind in history.
Before starting his address, President Moon noted that today was the 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre and expressed sorrow and deep empathy for the victims and offered heartfelt sympathy to all of those who were still suffering.
