President Moon Jae-in spoke by phone to U.S. President Donald Trump for 30 minutes from 10:00 this evening. They discussed issues concerning the Korean Peninsula, including the improvement in South-North Korea ties on the occasion of the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.
President Trump congratulated President Moon on the great success of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
President Moon thanked President Trump for his support, including the sending of Vice President Mike Pence and Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump, which made it possible for the Olympics to be successfully hosted.
President Moon discussed with his counterpart the outcome of the visits by the North`s special envoy and high-level delegations during the PyeongChang Olympics. The two Presidents agreed to continue efforts to maintain the momentum in inter-Korean dialogue so that it leads to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
President Moon told President Trump about his plan to send a special envoy to North Korea soon to confirm what was discussed during the visit of the high-level delegation from the North. It will be in the form of a return visit for special envoy Kim Yo-jong, 1st Vice Director of the Central Committee of the Workers` Party of North Korea. The two leaders agreed to continue to have close consultations on the progress of future inter-Korean talks.
