President Moon Jae-in met with five key Cabinet ministers of the United Arab Emirates at a hotel in Abu Dhabi at four o’clock in the afternoon on the second day of his official visit to the UAE. They included Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority of Abu Dhabi Khaldoun Khalifa Al Mubarak and Minister of State Sultan Al Jaber, who is also serving as Group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
Attending the meeting from the Korean side were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy & Finance Kim Dong-yeon; Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-hwa; Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Paik Ungyu; Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok; Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the UAE Park Kang-Ho; Cheong Wa Dae Second Deputy Director of National Security Nam Gwan-pyo; Adviser to the President for Economic Affairs Kim Hyun-chul and Adviser to the President for Science and Technology Moon Mi-ok.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged ideas on how to enhance substantive cooperation between Korea and the UAE in the area of energy, including nuclear power generation.
Conveying what had been discussed during the summit and expanded summit in the morning as well as during a luncheon, President Moon asked the Presidential Chief of Staff and the Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority of Abu Dhabi to continue concrete discussions on related matters.
In particular, President Moon mentioned that the UAE intended to work together on Korea’s efforts to win a Saudi Arabian project to build nuclear power plants.
The President also said that at the luncheon earlier the agricultural sector had been chosen as another field for cooperation. The President went on to say that Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan asked for collaboration in agricultural technology, in which Korea was more advanced.
