President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska will make an official visit to Korea for three days April 9-11. He already visited Korea unofficially February 8-14 together with his daughter to attend the Opening Ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
His visit this time will be the first official visit by a Slovakian President. It is especially meaningful because it comes in a year marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Presidents Moon and Kiska will hold a summit on April 10, which will be followed by an official luncheon.
Slovakia is Korea’s key partner in Europe serving as a bridgehead for Korean businesses to advance into European markets. Currently, some 90 Korean companies, including KIA Motors and Samsung Electronics, are investing in Slovakia.
At the summit, the two leaders are expected to evaluate the current state of bilateral relations celebrating 25 years and hold comprehensive discussions on how to expand substantive cooperation in the economy.
They are also expected to have in-depth discussions on a wide range of topics to strengthen friendly, cooperative relations between the two nations. The topics include ways to promote forward-looking collaboration in the areas of science and technology and research and development in a joint response to the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and how to cooperate on the international stage.
Slovakia is a member of the Visegrad Group (V4), a regional community of four Central European nations, including Czech, Hungary and Poland, and the visit by the Slovakian President is expected to contribute to the diversification of Korea’s diplomacy in Europe, including the strengthening of cooperation between Korea and the V4.
