President Moon Jae-in and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held a telephone conversation for 35 minutes from nine o’clock this morning. The two leaders discussed the results of the inter-Korean summit and the recent van attack in Toronto. 

The Canadian Prime Minister first mentioned the incident that had taken place in Korea Town in Toronto on April 23, in which a van plowed through pedestrians on a sidewalk, killing and injuring many people, including several Koreans. The Prime Minister continued that he was speechless and his heart was with the Korean people. He added that the criminal would be indicted on charges of murder and attempted murder, promising that he would do his best to ensure that justice prevails. 

In reply, President Moon expressed his appreciation to the Canadian authorities for rendering active support for Korean victims and bereaved families. Speaking of many Koreans living in and traveling to Canada, President Moon requested the Canadian Government`s continued interest in enhancing measures for their safety.   

After hearing about the result of the inter-Korean summit from President Moon, Prime Minister Trudeau said Canada, a good friend of Korea, was willing to take action if it could help bring peace to the Korean Peninsula. The Prime Minister went on to say that he would have in-depth discussions with the heads of G-7 nations on the issue at the G-7 summit scheduled in Quebec, Canada, in early June. 

President Moon said if G-7 nations came together to support the results of the inter-Korean summit and a summit between North Korea and the United States, it would be of great help for the complete denuclearization of the Peninsula and the settlement of permanent peace.
