President Moon Jae-in sent a message of condolence today to the bereaved family of American university student Otto Warmbier.
In his message, President Moon said he felt sorry for the death of their son and expressed his deepest sympathy and condolences.
In an interview with a foreign media outlet yesterday, President Moon cast doubt, more than anything else, on whether North Korea had faithfully fulfilled its humanitarian responsibility to inform the Warmbier family of his condition as soon as he became critically ill and allow him to get the best possible treatment.
In addition, the President said that it is truly deplorable that the North does not respect human rights—universal norms and the value of humanity.
North Korea is still detaining Korean and U.S. citizens, and they must be returned to their families as soon as possible. The Korean Government will do everything it can to that end.
