President Moon Jae-in will begin a series of day visits to different cities and provincial towns across the country, including the provinces of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongsangnam-do and Jeollabuk-do, starting with a trip to the latter today.
The President’s visits have been arranged as part of efforts to infuse vitality into provincial areas. The trips are aimed at providing backing for local areas to take the initiative in devising and implementing development strategies.
Whenever opportunities arise, the President will tour local areas to speak directly with businesspeople, microbusiness owners and young people in those areas and discuss regional development strategies. In this way, the President's plans for local economies can be implemented in earnest.
Notably, departing from a regional policy directed by the central government, local areas will take the lead in formulating development strategies while the Government will play a supportive role.
Regional governments need to take the initiative in fulfilling infrastructure projects related to everyday life. Many such projects will be carried out in earnest starting next year as the local governments’ major undertakings. The President’s itinerary for the provincial day trips will be closely linked to these projects.
