First Lady Kim Jung-sook is accompanying President Moon Jae-in on his five-day trip to the United States from today. Known for her friendly and cheerful character, the First Lady is expected to carry out her supportive role to help make the President’s first overseas trip a success. 

The first event on her itinerary in the United States is to visit the Jangjin (Chosin) Reservoir Battle Monument together with President Moon and lay a wreath there. On the next day, the presidential couple will attend a welcoming dinner hosted by President and Mrs. Trump.

On June 30, First Lady Kim will visit IONA Senior Services and hold a conversation with officials there. She will also join an art therapy session there. The First Lady has dropped in on senior centers in Korea as often as possible. She is known to have asked if a visit to a local dementia care facility or a senior welfare center could be included more than anything else on her itinerary in the United States.

The First Lady is also scheduled to attend a luncheon with Second Lady of the United States Karen Pence and have an informal meeting with members of the Seoul-Washington Women`s Association, reflecting on the special meaning of friendship and trust between Korea and the United States.
