Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea sent a personal letter to President Moon Jae-in today.
In the letter, Chairman Kim conveyed his warm greetings upon the conclusion of 2018 and delivered a message suggesting that the leaders of the two Koreas continue to work together for peace and prosperity on the Peninsula next year.
Chairman Kim noted that President Moon and he had held meetings three times this past year and agreed on substantive and bold measures that transcended the long-running confrontation between the South and North. The Chairman went on to underscore that such measures had freed the Korean people from military tensions and the fear of war.
Writing that he had been looking forward to visiting Seoul within this year as the two leaders had agreed in Pyeongyang, Chairman Kim regretted not being able to visit.
Chairman Kim expressed his strong determination to make a reciprocal visit to Seoul while closely monitoring the situation going forward. The Chairman disclosed his intention to move discussions about peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula forward through frequent meetings with President Moon in 2019 and to work together to resolve issues regarding the denuclearization of the Peninsula.
