President Moon Jae-in will invite the heads of state and government of the ten ASEAN member states and the Secretary-General of ASEAN to the 2019 ASEAN- ROK Commemorative Summit. It will be held in Busan November 25-26 in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Korea-ASEAN Dialogue Relations.
The Summit will be the largest official international conference to be held in Korea since President Moon Jae-in’s inauguration. This gathering is expected to be an opportunity to take stock of progress in the Korea-ASEAN relationship over the past 30 years and set out a vision for development over the next three decades.
In addition, the Summit will serve as an occasion to review what the Korean Government’s New Southern Policy has achieved in various sectors and as a catalyst for boosting implementation of the Policy in a more mutually beneficial manner.
Moreover, the Korean Government will host the first Mekong-ROK Summit on November 27 in tandem with the ASEAN- ROK Commemorative Summit with a view to significantly bolstering cooperation with the Mekong River basin countries – Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia – that are rapidly growing ASEAN economies.
