The President Meets with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton President Moon Jae-in met with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and White House National Security Advisor John Bolton for 50 minutes from 9:00 a.m. today (local time).
President Moon expressed his high regard for the two officials’ hard work and contribution for the great journey to achieve the complete denuclearization and establishment of peace regime on the Korean Peninsula. The President also extended his appreciation for their close consultation with their Korean counterparts in regard to various pending issues, including the DPRK’s denuclearization.
President Moon explained to the Secretary of State and National Security Advisor recent developments surrounding the Korean Peninsula and the Republic of Korea’s efforts to help future U.S.-DPRK dialogue gain traction. Then, they briefed him on U.S. assessments of the U.S.-DPRK Hanoi Summit and future measures.
The President emphasized the need for maintaining momentum in U.S.-DPRK talks and the top-down approach to secure the desired outcome, reconfirming his conviction that it will be realized. The Secretary of State and National Security Advisor said they would continue the dialogue with the DPRK and would make multi-faceted effort for U.S.-DPRK talks at a range of levels.
President Moon noted that contributions by the Secretary of State and National Security Advisor have helped the ROK-U.S. alliance become more steadfast, asking them to continue close cooperation with their Korean counterparts going forward.
