President Moon Jae-in spoke on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump from 10:00 p.m., May 7. During their 35-minute telephone conversation, President Moon explained the Korean Government’s stance on the DPRK’s May 4 firing of short-range projectiles, including tactical guided weapons.

The two heads of state discussed how to resume denuclearization negotiations as soon as possible to keep the DPRK on a dialogue track for denuclearization despite its recent weapons firing. 

The two Presidents concurred that appropriate responses by the ROK and U.S. governments under close coordination immediately after the DPRK’s weapons firing had been highly effective.

Importantly, President Moon noted that President Trump’s message posted on Twitter would play a critical role in continuing to steer the North in a positive direction. 

The two leaders exchanged views on the Joint Rapid Food Security Assessment of the DPRK’s food situation by the World Food Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization. President Trump said that the ROK’s humanitarian food supply to the people in the North would be a very timely and positive action, expressing his support to the idea.

The two Presidents also agreed to continue close consultation regarding President Trump visiting Korea at an early date.
