President Moon Jae-in met with former U.S. President Barack Obama at Cheong Wa Dae for 40 minutes from 1:30 this afternoon.
President Moon briefed President Obama on the results of the ROK-U.S. summit held in the United States last week, saying it had garnered more-than-expected outcomes such as an agreement with President Trump to further reinforce the ROK-U.S. alliance. President Moon said he looked forward to many more inputs from President Obama for the greater advancement of the ROK-U.S. alliance.
President Moon also explained that he and President Trump had reached an agreement to pursue dialogue in parallel with sanctions and pressure in order to resolve the North Korean nuclear and missile issue. He stressed that now would be the last chance for the North to come forward for dialogue.
President Obama noted that President Abraham Lincoln, whom he admired the most, had once said that nothing can succeed without support from the public while with it, nothing can fail. He went on to say that, given the fact that many Korean people wished for the success of President Moon, he would be able to fully meet their expectations.
Mentioning that the United States was giving full, bipartisan support to the ROK-U.S. alliance, President Obama said that ROK-U.S. relations would be further solidified since Americans were supporting Korea and Korean communities in the United States were also showing strong backing.
