Prime Minister Boyko Borissov of the Republic of Bulgaria will make an official visit to Korea September 25-27 at the invitation of President Moon Jae-in.

President Moon and Prime Minister Borissov are scheduled to hold a summit on Friday morning, September 27. His visit to Korea will be the first by a Bulgarian prime minister.

President Moon is expected to note the leadership of Prime Minister Borissov, who is spearheading Bulgaria’s progress inside and outside the country while serving his third term in office. The two leaders will discuss ways to promote mutually beneficial, forward-looking and substantive cooperation in a wide range of areas, including trade, investment, energy infrastructure, national defense and the defense industry, as well as culture and education. 

Moreover, they will reaffirm Bulgaria’s support for the peace process on the Korean Peninsula and consult with each other on key international pending issues.

Prime Minister Borissov’s visit comes ahead of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries next year. His visit is anticipated to serve as an opportunity to cement bilateral relations that have made steady advancement since 1990 when the diplomatic relationship was forged. It is also expected to further deepen a comprehensive, future-oriented partnership through increased substantive cooperation.
