President Moon Jae-in spoke on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump for 23 minutes from 10:00 p.m. to 10:23 p.m. today. 

During their telephone conversation, the two leaders shared concerns over the global spread of COVID-19 and exchanged views on how the two countries could work together to overcome the pandemic. 

President Trump inquired whether Korea could provide medical equipment and supplies to help the United States cope with the COVID-19 outbreak. President Moon replied that his government is willing to provide as much equipment as possible, subject to domestic demand and supply. 

When President Moon explained that FDA approval may be required, President Trump said he would take immediate action to ensure that approval is granted within the day.

President Trump expressed interest in the situation regarding confirmed COVID-19 cases in Korea, and noted that Korea is doing a wonderful job.

The two leaders concurred that the currency swap deal agreed between Seoul and Washington last week was very timely, and that it will contribute to stabilizing the international financial market. They also exchanged views on the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

President Moon said that it will be important for leaders to send a unified message with regards to quarantine and economic measures at the extraordinary virtual G20 Leaders’ Summit on COVID-19 on Thursday. He also expressed his hope to engage in extensive discussions for international cooperation through which we can minimize the negative impact on the global economy by promoting trade and business activities within the framework of the preventive measures that each country is taking. 

Before finishing their phone call, President Trump expressed understanding and replied that he is looking forward to engaging in productive discussions at the upcoming G20 Summit. The phone conversation was arranged at the urgent request from President Trump.
