President Moon Jae-in spoke on the phone with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, for 15 minutes from 5:00 p.m. today. The two leaders exchanged views on a schedule for the 2nd P4G (Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030) Summit and how to overcome the COVID-19 outbreak. Today’s telephone conversation was arranged at the suggestion of President Moon.

The President began by saying, “The Republic of Korea has unavoidably decided to postpone its hosting of the 2nd P4G Summit to next year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I am grateful to Denmark for its understanding.”

President Moon explained, “With regard to a specific schedule for the Summit, we will consult with Denmark and other major P4G partners to find the most appropriate time.” 

Prime Minister Frederiksen said that she fully supported the Korean Government’s decision to postpone the P4G Summit and that the decision by Korea to hold the summit even while delaying it next year was a strong signal of President Moon’s “green leadership.”

President Moon stressed the need for international cooperation to end the COVID-19 outbreak at the earliest date possible. He added that the Republic of Korea is willing to actively share with the international community, including Denmark, the quarantine and treatment experience as well as relevant clinical data the Korean Government has accumulated.

Prime Minister Frederiksen said that she very much looked forward to cooperating with Korea as the supply of medical equipment has become an important issue in Denmark. She expressed significant interest in purchasing Korea-made diagnostic kits and medical devices.

President Moon said, “I am aware that Denmark is engaged in consultations with Korean companies to import diagnostic kits. We will actively consider providing assistance as circumstances permit should Danish authorities inform us about its detailed requests for our diagnostic kit and quarantine and medical supply exports.” 

In reply, Prime Minister Frederiksen expressed her gratitude and said that Danish authorities would compile and present the details.   

President Moon explained the statement adopted by the extraordinary virtual G20 Leaders’ Summit held last week. The President suggested that the two countries closely work together to minimize the COVID-19 outbreak’s negative impact on the global economy and to ensure that international trade continues to proceed smoothly. The Prime Minister expressed her full agreement as well.
