President Moon Jae-in met with former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations at Cheong Wa Dae today. Today’s meeting was arranged ahead of President Moon’s scheduled attendance at the U.N. General Assembly in his first year in office so that the President could exchange opinions with Secretary-General Ban and draw upon his wisdom.
President Moon and the former U.N. Secretary-General exchanged ideas on North Korean issues, including its nuclear development, and other global matters. Particularly noting the recent grave diplomatic and security circumstances, including the North Korean nuclear test, President Moon said his Administration was seeking to achieve meaningful progress in addressing matters related to the Korean Peninsula and other pending global issues through the U.N. General Assembly and asked for advice.
Secretary-General Ban said he expected that President Moon would be able to make many achievements at the upcoming General Assembly and promised that he would take interest in providing support so that his experience at the United Nations would help promote national interests.
