President Moon Jae-in is to embark on a trip today to New York, the United States, to attend the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly. While in New York September 18-22, the President will have a tight schedule full of events, including addressing the U.N. General Assembly, meeting with the U.N. Secretary-General, holding bilateral summits with leaders from key participating countries, having a meeting with members of a local Korean community, having dialogue with financial and economic professionals, attending an evening gathering, “PyeongChang 2018 at the Met: Celebrating the Olympic Winter Games for Peace” and receiving a Global Citizen Award conferred by the Atlantic Council.
The theme of the 72nd Session the U.N. General Assembly to be attended by about 120 heads of state and government is "Focusing on people: striving for peace and a decent life for all on a sustainable planet." It is all the more meaningful that the theme is in line with an initiative of President Moon and his Administration to build a society where everyone can lead a decent life.
In a time when international cooperation is desperately needed amid the North Korean nuclear crisis, President Moon plans to gather support from the international community for his Administration’s policy toward the North. He also intends to send a message that his Administration will strive to make the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games an “Olympics of peace” and a great success.
