The number of new COVID-19 cases in Daegu finally fell to zero yesterday. It marked the first time in 52 days since the city reported its first confirmed patient.
This accomplishment came 42 days after the number of new confirmed cases hit 741, the highest single-day total.
I extend my sincere condolences, encouragement and gratitude to Daegu citizens for their sacrifices and hard work to date.
The daily total for new confirmed cases throughout the Republic of Korea stood at 27, finally falling below 30 for the first time since COVID-19 began to spread widely across the nation.
Of course, the situation is still precarious. However, I think I can now ask that we push ourselves just a little more. We might be able to shift from “social distancing” to “routine infectious disease prevention and control measures” if we can make it through Easter and the general election.
Fellow Koreans, Daegu citizens, you have all gone through a lot. Let us push ourselves just a little more.
