Bangkok is vibrant. Many boats navigate the Chao Phraya River in both directions, and the tranquility of temples and the excitement of markets blend harmoniously. I could sense the charm of Thailand, a tourism powerhouse, in many parts of the country.
Thailand fought alongside us during the Korean War and has become our eternal friend. Having promised to work together in the fields of not only future industries but also national defense and the defense industry, our two countries have forged even closer relations.
What impressed me particularly during my visit to Thailand was the launching show arranged to introduce Korean SME products labeled with the new nationally certified “Brand K” trademark to the Thai People.
The event was a chance for me to reconfirm our country’s competitiveness, which has been enhanced by Hallyu. Through the Korean Wave, many people here have come to like our products, learn how to read and write Hangeul and feel affection for Korea. Prime Minister Prayut said he had enjoyed watching our drama “Descendants of the Sun” and even hummed “Arirang.”
The excellence of our SME products made me feel proud. Although our SMEs have fallen somewhat behind in terms of brand power, they now bear the nationally certified trademark and can compete confidently. The underlying foundation is trust in “Made in Korea.”
With culture and arts professionals enjoying the production of TV dramas and K-pop, businesspeople producing high-quality products and the Government forging trustworthy diplomatic relations, we will be able to work together in harmony to make anything possible.
I was very pleased to be able to award the Apostle of Peace medal to Korean War veterans in Thailand. I will long remember Prime Minister Prayut and his wife Naraporn who showed warm hospitality and the Thai people’s smile.
