(Unofficial Translation)
We will create “new hope” to return to the “new normal.”
We mark an Easter when hope is especially needed. Many churches provided minimal services, and Christians celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ in their homes. I am grateful to Korean churches and congregations for practicing profound love based on their belief in the resurrection.
The resurrection is miraculous to the believers of Christianity, but it is a message of hope to nonbelievers as well. It is a hope that inspires us as it transcends death.
Just as Jesus Christ transformed a history of tribulations into one of hope through his resurrection, our people are working to turn the current crisis into hope while practicing courage and love during this difficult period.
I am proud of our people who are safeguarding the preciousness of humanity and liberty through sacrifices and devotions great and small.
The history of the Republic of Korea is the “history of resurrection.” We have achieved liberation from colonial rule, democracy from dictatorship and economic growth from absolute poverty on our own, trusting and encouraging each other.
There are still many challenges ahead of us, and we cannot afford to lower our guard in our infectious disease prevention and control efforts until the moment when the last infected person fully recovers. However, we will overcome this without fail and rise again with one mind.
Many predict that the world will face a turning point in the history of civilization following the COVID-19 outbreak.
We will encounter a significantly different world in all respects, including medical care and infectious disease prevention and control, the economy and industry, and foreign affairs and culture. As with the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we must create new hope in order to return to the new normal.
The Government will prepare for a new life in the Republic of Korea while doing its utmost until the moment when the last infected person recovers completely.
On this Easter morning in 2020, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and consolation to the people who are joining forces to surmount the COVID-19 outbreak while being unable to enjoy the spring that has already drawn near. I pray for an Easter full of love and harmony in every household.
