Congratulatory Remarks by President Moon Jae-in on 40th Anniversary of ROK/U.S. Combined Forces Command

Congratulations on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the ROK/U.S. Combined Forces Command.
Over the past 40 years, the CFC’s strong sense of duty toward peace and security has served as the foundation for the Republic of Korea’s prosperity today. I salute the men and women in uniform as the Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Korea in appreciation of their dedication.
My special thanks go to General Brooks who departs after having successfully carried out his duty as the CFC Commander for the last 31 months. I offer congratulations to the new Commander, General Abrams.
The history of the CFC is the history of the ROK-U.S. alliance. Forged in blood in the fire of war, the alliance has safeguarded peace in Northeast Asia, going beyond the Korean Peninsula. Now on the strength of the alliance, we are ushering in a new era of peace. Miraculous historic events such as the three inter-Korean summits and the U.S.-North Korea summit are attributable to the support provided by the rock-solid ROK-U.S. combined defense posture. I am truly proud of it.
I am convinced that an even steadier ROK-U.S. combined defense posture will be maintained going forward with General Abrams playing a central role. I hope that the pending tasks, including wartime operational control transfer and the redeployment of U.S. Forces Korea, will be addressed as planned through close consultations.
I have unlimited confidence in the ROK/U.S. Combined Forces Command’s men and women in uniform. May glory and success always be with you.
