What I want to achieve is peace. Not a tentative change which could be volatile dependent on international situation, but irreversible, permanent and unwavering peace, regardless of what might happen on the global arena.

I believe the establishment of an enduring peace regime is the way for the South and North to become the masters of Korean Peninsula issues without getting pushed around by any international situation and is also the path toward common prosperity and reunification.

I will put forth intensive efforts into the following two issues at the upcoming summit for the sake of permanent peace between the two Koreas.

First, the primary task is to address tension and possible armed conflict arising from a military standoff between the South and North as well as fears of war.

Second, it is necessary to facilitate North Korea-United States dialogue for denuclearization. It is not an issue we can take the initiative in resolving. For this reason, I intend to have a candid, frank conversation with Chairman Kim Jong Un about how to find common ground between the U.S. demand for denuclearization measures and the North’s request for an end to hostile relations and reciprocal action for a security guarantee.
