It’s a great pleasure to meet my dear friend, President Jokowi, here in my hometown of Busan.
I’d like to congratulate the President once again on his reelection last month. Indonesia will advance all the more dynamically thanks to his inclusive leadership.
The Republic of Korea has forged a special strategic partnership with the Republic of Indonesia, the only such relationship among countries in Southeast Asia. Our two nations hold annual summits, including mutual state visits, and we have built special bonds that are unprecedentedly close.
Our two countries now pursue common prosperity as indispensable partners to one another. Our bilateral trade volume reached US$20 billion last year, and we have concluded the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which will spur still more bilateral trade.
I expect today’s summit will be a venue for us to discuss in depth ways to promote substantive cooperation as well as collaboration to contribute to international security. I am convinced that our two countries’ friendship will play an important role in promoting ASEAN’s shared prosperity.
Thank you.
