President Moon Jae-in and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a summit during dinner at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin on July 5. During the summit, dozens of members of the local Korean community holding banners with messages in support of President Moon gathered outside the Chancellery to see him up close. As the summit was prolonged, they all became both more enthusiastic and desperate about meeting the President.

After the summit, the President was informed of the situation outside and decided to meet with the group waiting for him. When Chancellor Merkel was seeing him off, President Moon suggested she go back to her office first, but the Chancellor said that she wanted to come along with him. An official of the Chancellery said that he had never seen such a scene ever before.

With a smile on her face, Chancellor Merkel joined President Moon in greeting the crowd outside and shaking their hands through the gate. The President was grateful to everyone for sending him such heartfelt support. Special thanks go to Chancellor Merkel for taking the time to join the President.
