President Moon Jae-in appointed new heads to three presidential committees on Oct. 10.
The newly appointed chiefs are Shin In-ryung of the National Education Council, Jung Hae-gu of the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning, and Chang Byung-gyu of the Presidential Fourth Industrial Revolution Committee.
President Moon said, “The issues of education, a low birth rate and an aging population, and the fourth industrial revolution are some of the most important policy tasks facing our new government, aspects that could forge the future of Korea over the next 100 years.”
“Starting next year, we should look back on the past 100 years of the Republic of Korea, and we also need to begin to design Korea’s next 100 years,” he said.
President Moon told chief Shin of the National Education Council that, “Education reform can only be carried out with proper understanding and agreement from the people.”
“I hope that the National Education Council can conduct related tasks so that it can further become a national education committee,” he said.
To the chief of the Presidential Fourth Industrial Revolution Committee, Chang Byung-gyu, the president said, “To strengthen national competitiveness, I hope the committee can set up appropriate policies and tasks that are necessary to develop the fourth industrial revolution, and that it can lay the foundation for the fourth industrial revolution across the country.”
“I also hope the committee can play a key role in presenting ways to achieve innovative growth and that it can help to lead new industries and new growth sectors,” he said.
Finally, President Moon told Jung Hae-gu, chief of the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning, that, “Your committee should be in charge of carrying out and planning all policy tasks. I hope this committee can serve as a think tank covering the overall state of state affairs management."
