President Moon Jae-in on Oct. 17 emphasized the need to secure defense industry capability and competitiveness in order to protect peace and to face North Korea’s security threats.
During the opening ceremony at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX), President Moon said, “We need the power to protect and establish peace, now more than ever.”
“We desperately need to secure the capability of strong and independent aerospace and defense industries,” said the president.
President Moon said, “To protect the citizens from North Korea’s security threats, we need to strategically build cutting-edge weapons systems as soon as possible.”
“The government will build the `Kill Chain Pre-emptive Strike` system as early as possible and do its utmost to realize the goal of achieving strong security and a responsible national defense posture.”
The "Kill Chain Pre-emptive Strike" system includes the Korean Air and Missile Defense system (KAMD), and the Korea Massive Punishment and Retaliation system (KMPR).

Highlighting the need to bolster the competitiveness of the Korean defense industry, President Moon said, “Our defense industry needs to make a leap forward, not just to produce cutting-edge arms within the country, but in order to transform itself and to boost exports.”
President Moon said, “Our government will work hard so that Korea’s defense industry exports involve not only exporting weapons systems, but also involve sharing military management experience.”
“The will of the Korean government will contribute to strengthening the national defense capability of its partner countries, and to world peace,” he said.
