President Moon Jae-in, currently on a state visit to Indonesia, urged Korean residents in Jakarta to promote next year’s PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in a meeting with them all on Nov. 8.
“I call on all of you here today to act as honorary ambassadors from now on for the PyeongChang Winter Games. I ask you to promote the upcoming Olympics to your neighbors and friends, and to draw their participation to the sporting festival,” President Moon said.
“You’ll be able to explore things in Pyeongchang that you’ve never experienced before, from the magical beauty of winter in Korea to the wishes among Koreans for peace. You’ll also be able to see treasures of the nation, as well as traditions and art.”
Mentioning a committee aimed at promoting the PyeongChang Olympic Games and making it a success, which was launched by an association of Korean residents in Jakarta, the president said, “If you join us in Pyeongchang, I believe the Olympic flame, which will let Pyeongchang shine, as its official slogan says, `Let everyone shine,` will light up the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang in August next year, will light up the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and will light up the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.”
