Last week, some 250 sport journalists from around the world visited Pyeongchang and Gangneung in Gangwon-do Province, two of the three host cities for the upcoming PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Representing around 120 different countries, the journalists were in Gangwon-do for the 80th International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Congress. On May 12, the group took a tour of some of the Olympic venues, including the PyeongChang Alpensia Ski Jumping Center and the Gangneung Ice Arena.
The group was given a detailed progress report on the big event by the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG). Information about the cutting-edge technologies that will be featured at the PyeongChang Olympics, from fifth generation mobile networks and the Internet of Things (IoT) through to ultra-high-definition displays and virtual reality (VR), were introduced to the crowd.
"With only 270 days to go until the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, it`s great that the AIPS Congress is taking place in the Olympic city of Pyeongchang. We hope that the AIPS`s visit will generate buzz and build excitement around the upcoming Winter Olympics," said President Lee Hee-beom of the POCOG.
