Newly-elected President Moon Jae-in receives a phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump on May 10, congratulating him on his win. That same day President Moon (pictured), took the oath of office and he was officially sworn in to serve in Korea`s 19th president term.

Korea and the U.S. have discussed holding a bilateral summit between their two heads of state in the near future. 

Newly-elected President Moon Jae-in received a congratulatory phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump on May 10. 

"I would like to visit Washington, D.C., as soon as feasible, to meet with you and have a heart-to-heart talk on issues pertaining to our two countries," said President Moon. 

"The Korea-U.S. alliance is more important than ever for the Korean Peninsula, especially in our current state of uncertainty. The Korea-U.S. alliance has always formed the basis of our policies related to diplomacy and national security. This fact will remain unchanged in the future," said President Moon during the 30-minute conversation. 

To this, President Trump responded, "Korea and the U.S. are not just good allies but great allies," and officially invited his Korean counterpart to visit the U.S.
