By Kang Gahui and Sohn JiAe
President Moon Jae-in spoke with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, from Cheong Wa Dae on Jan. 11 to discuss issues of mutual interest, such as the latest high-ranking inter-Korean talks and February’s PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
President Moon detailed the outcomes of the recent inter-Korean talks and was happy for the keen support for the results from the Beijing government.
President Xi welcomed recent progress in the inter-Korean relationship, while showing his full support for the South Korean government’s efforts to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
The two leaders vowed to continue the strategic communication and cooperation that exists between Seoul and Beijing, in the hopes that inter-Korean talks would go beyond the North`s participation in the PyeongChang Olympic Games and move toward solving other North Korean issues in a peaceful manner, and also toward establishing peace on the peninsula.
The Chinese president concluded the call by stressing that he fully supported President Moon’s stance that better inter-Korean ties would go along with denuclearization on the peninsula.
