Inter-Korean Summit Press Corps
President Moon Jae-in and North Korean Chairman of the State Affairs Committee Kim Jong Un had their first historic meeting at the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) in Panmunjeom on April 27.
As Chairman Kim showed up at the Panmun Pavilion, President Moon approached Kim from the Freedom House on the southern side of Panjumjeom. The two leaders met in front of the MDL and shook hands.
The two leaders held each other`s hands and stepped across the MDL to the north and then to the south with a smile. Escorted by President Moon, Chairman Kim entered South Korean territory. The two leaders posed for photos on the northern side with the Panmun Pavilion and on the southern side with the Freedom House, respectively.
Greeted by two children with wreaths, the two leaders walked together to the official welcoming ceremony venue, accompanied by a traditional honor guard. They inspected the honor guard composed of a military marching band and an honor guard from the South Korean army, navy and air force, a traditional honor guard and then a traditional marching band. The two leaders introduced official attendants from each of the two sides. At Chairman Kim`s suggestion, the two leaders even posed for photos with the official attendants in a friendly atmosphere.
After Kim finished signing the guestbook, the two leaders posed for photos and inspected a painting of Bukhansan Mountain by Min jeong-ki. This work of art represents the invitation extended to Chairman Kim, who has become the first North Korean leader to ever step onto South Korean territory.
