Journalists from around the world and major media outlets such as CNN, The Washington Post and the Xinhua News Agency have all delivered the breaking news about the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit held on April 27.
CNN had the headline “Historic handshake between Koreas” and a corresponding photo at the top of its website, along with up-to-date news about the ongoing summit.
On April 26, one day ahead of the summit, CNN introduced President Moon Jae-in in a video titled “Moon: The masterful dealmaker” and explained that he played a major role in pushing forward a meeting with North Korea, convincing the leaders of North Korea and the U.S. to participate.
The Washington Post also put its news about the summit at the top of its website in an article titled “Historic moment: Kim Jong Un walks across border to meet South Korean president.”

Major news outlets from neighboring countries such as China’s Global Times and the Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong’s Ta Kung Pao and Japan’s Sankei Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun, Asahi Simbun and Yomiuri Shimbun also covered news of the event in real-time.
NHK in particular shared the Japanese foreign minister’s message, that, “The Japanese government respects the Korean government for the endeavors it has undertaken to bring forward the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit.”
Other influential news outlets, such as Russia’s Tass, France’s Le Figaro, Germany’s Bild, Spain’s El Pais and Vietnam’s Tuoi Tre, also had breaking news about the Inter-Korean Summit for their readers.
The 2018 Inter-Korean Summit is getting a lot of attention from foreign media outlets. According to the Inter-Korean Summit Preparation Committee, a total of 2,833 journalists signed up for official credentials, including 858 non-Koreans from 180 media outlets in 34 countries, and 1,975 Korean journalist from 168 news outlets in Korea. This is almost twice the number of journalists that came to the Inter-Korean Summits in 2000 and 2007.
The preparation committee also said that 15 countries, including Canada, Iran, Thailand, India and Austria, are new to an Inter-Korean Summit, as journalists from those countries did not officially attend the Inter-Korean Summit in 2007.
