President Moon Jae-in said that the Panmumjeom Declaration is a historic start that will usher in a new era on the Korean Peninsula, and, also, that a peace declaration has clarified to the whole world that there will be no war and no nuclear weapons on the peninsula.
Presiding over a meeting with his top aides at Cheong Wa Dae on April 30, President Moon stressed that, “I’m pretty sure that a new era of peace will unfold on the peninsula, as both Koreas ease military tension and build trust.”
"The 2018 Inter-Korean Summit has paved the way for co-prosperity between the two sides," said the president. “Both Koreas will facilitate close consultation by establishing a joint liaison and resuming dialogue on issues concerning a wide range of areas, while working to develop a sustainable inter-Korean relationship.”
He then called on his aides to make all out efforts to carry out follow-up measures.
In particular, the president asked that the Inter-Korean Summit Preparation Committee be turned into a committee aimed to carry out follow-up measures. He also asked for close cooperation with the U.S. so as to make a following summit between Washington and Pyeongyang successful. Finally, the president called for a swift signing, ratification and proclamation of the Panmunjeom Declaration by the National Assembly of Korea.
