President Moon Jae-in will spend the first anniversary of his administration on May 10 in a humble and honest manner, said Cheong Wa Dae on May 3.
President Moon will focus on working for the upcoming Korea-Japan-China summit and implementation of the Panmunjeom Declaration without hosting any special event, said Presidential Senior Secretary for Public Relations Yoon Young-chan.
In a press briefing at the Chunchugwan Press Center at Cheong Wa Dae, Senior Secretary Yoon said, “Over the past year since taking office, the Moon Jae-in administration has been doing its utmost to make the country a decent country.”
“We concentrated on regaining the trust of the people for the government, which had been blocked and isolated, and we worked hard to create a country that belongs to the people, a government that listens to the voice of the people, and a Cheong Wa Dae that sees the world through the eyes of the people,” said Yoon.
“Many things took place over the past one year, but we will quietly make our moves forward, as we still have a long way to go,” he added.
“Although we still have an afterglow after the latest Inter-Korean Summit, the political changes involving the Korean Peninsula, particularly regarding the upcoming summit between the U.S. and North Korea, are taking place extremely rapidly,” said Senior Secretary Yoon.
“We will continue our journey along the path toward a peaceful Korean Peninsula and toward a world where people can live happily in a calm, cool and passionate manner,” he said.
Regarding the president`s plans for his first year anniversary, Presidential Senior Secretary Yoon said that President Moon will visit Japan early on the morning on May 9 for the Korea-Japan-China summit, one day ahead of the official anniversary.
“President Moon will have a busy day the next day, reviewing the implementation plan of the Panmunjeom Declaration," said Yoon.
Meanwhile, Cheong Wa Dae unveiled on May 3 a policy briefing booklet titled “The Moon Jae-in Administration Reports to the People, Marking the First Anniversary.” The presidential office will also host a photo exhibition about the first anniversary of the President Moon Jae-in administration from May 4 to June 3 at Cheong Wa Dae’s Sarangchae exhibition hall.
The anniversary day itself, May 10, Cheong Wa Dae will unveil an online booklet titled “From Square to Alley, a day to be with the people,” which contains some of the main messages of President Moon, presidential activities, and policy outcomes, all on its website. It will show a short video about a hiking trail along Inwangsan Mountain that used to be closed to the public. Cheong Wa Dae will also host a concert at the Nokjiwon Garden for residents who live near the presidential offices, such as the nearby neighborhood of Hyoja-dong and Samcheong-dong, that evening.
Within this month, Presidential Senior Secretary Yoon said Cheong Wa Dae will publish a book of collections of President Moon’s speeches in English, and a book about his policy outcomes in English. The presidential office will also unveil some video footage of influential figures from around the world expressing their views about the current Korean government and president, he added.
