President Moon Jae-in said that, “The reason why the May 26 Inter-Korean Summit was more significant than other previous inter-Korean talks was the fact that we leaders easily contacted each other, agreed to meet, and actually met without any formality, like a casual gathering.”
President Moon attached great significance to the latest summit, in a meeting with his top aides on May 28, calling the meeting an occasion where the leaders of the two Koreas decided to skip complicated procedures and formalities to arrange a summit.
“It’s very important in terms of the development of inter-Korean ties for the two Koreas to hold formal and regular summits, as we did at Panmunjeom last April and as we’ll do again at the scheduled summit in Pyeongyang this autumn,” the president stressed.
“As well as such formal meetings, if both sides take turns to travel to the southern side of Panmunjeom or the other way around in case when we need to talk immediately, such frequent comings-and-goings will surely promote the inter-Korean relationship faster,” he added.
