President Moon Jae-in on June 11, one day ahead of the NK-U.S. summit, said, “I look forward to the two leaders' bold decisions to freely exchange what they want from each other so that the wish of people across the world for a new era on the Korean Peninsula could be realized.”
The president held a meeting with the presidential senior secretaries at Cheong Wa Dae on June 11. In his opening remarks, the president said, “It was the bold determination of the two leaders, President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un, that has enabled us to come this far.”
“I hope a significant agreement will be reached at the summit this time on the end of hostile relations and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” he said.
The president also mentioned the necessity of sincere efforts by the two Koreas and the U.S. and continued cooperation from neighboring countries for the settlement of the deep-rooted hostility and the North Korean nuclear issue.
President Moon will announce an official message after seeing the outcome of the NK-U.S. summit.
Previously, Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom said during a regular briefing that, “The presidential message will be separate from official government statements to be announced by Second Deputy Chief of the Presidential National Security Office Nam Gwan-pyo right after the NK-U.S. summit. Its contents will depend on the outcome of the summit.”
