President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke about the results of the Singapore summit between the leaders of North Korea and the U.S. over the phone on June 12. 

The two leaders exchanged opinions on future cooperation measures between Seoul and Washington in order to implement the achievements of the summit. 

The phone call was made by President Trump when he was on board Air Force One after departing Singapore on the way home, said Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom in a written briefing.

President Moon highly valued the outcome of the Singapore summit, saying that, “President Trump achieved a successful outcome in the summit, which has laid great groundwork for world peace, not to mention for the Koran Peninsula.” 

Regarding the results of the meeting with North Korea’s Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong Un, President Trump said that the meeting has brought outcomes better than anyone at the working level could have expected. The U.S. president also said he developed a special bond with the North Korean leader. 

President Trump highly valued the summit results, by that, “North Korea’s promise to destroy missile engine test sites shows Chairman Kim’s firm will of action.” 

Regarding the joint excavation and exhumation of missing U.S. soldiers, which North Korea and the U.S. agreed to do, President Moon told the U.S. leader that, “Seoul will discuss with Pyeongyang a joint excavation program between the three countries because the two Koreas have already agreed to launch a similar program to find the remains of missing persons.” 

The two presidents agreed to work closely together for a thorough and swift implementation of the agreement reached in Singapore between North Korea and the U.S.
