Cheon Wa Dae announced the appointment of the top two senior posts at the National Security Office (NSO) on May 24.
President Moon Jae-in named Lee Sang-chul, professor of security studies at Seoul`s Sungshin University, as the first vice chief of the NSO, and Kim Ki-jung, dean of the Yonsei School of Public Administration at Seoul`s Yonsei University, as the second vice chief, said Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Park Soo-hyun on May 24.
Lee, the newly named first vice chief of the NSO, served as the director of the Korea Arms Verification Agency at the Ministry of National Defense, and was a representative at the inter-Korea general-level military talks. He will be in charge of security strategies, national defense reform and peaceful arms control. Lee will also serve as the chairman of the standing committee of the National Security Council, backed by three secretaries in the areas of security strategies, national defense reform and peaceful arms control.
Kim, the new NSO second vice chief, has been serving as an advisor to the foreign affairs and security sectors under the presidential advisory commission on planning state affairs. He will be in charge of foreign affairs and unification policies, and of information fusion and cyber security.
