President Moon Jae-in arrived at Pyeongyang's Sunan International Airport at around 9:50 a.m. on Sept. 18 and was welcomed by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sul-ju.
As he disembarked the plane, President Moon was embraced by the North Korean leader. Those who welcomed President Moon's arrival included many of the North's high-ranking officials, including Kim Yo Jong, first vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, North Korean minister of foreign affairs Ri Yong Ho, and, Ri Son Gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country.
The two leaders attended the official welcoming ceremony amid cheers from the people of Pyeongyang who were waving both the Korean unification flag and the North Korean national flag to the music of the honor guard.
After inspecting the honor guard with Kim, President Moon approached some members of the crowd for a handshake, greeting some of the many Pyeongyang welcomers who had come out to greet the first South Korean leader to visit the city in 11 years.
Moving to the Baekhwawon reception hall in Daeseong-gu, Pyeongyang, President Moon will have lunch and then hold talks with the North Korean leader.
