President Moon Jae-in held a telephone conversation with Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi in the UAE, on June 7 to discuss ways to boost bilateral cooperation.
Mentioning the four recent Korean trips made by the Abu Dhabi crown prince, President Moon said, “I would like your continued support and that you take an interest in Korea.”
President Moon said, “The Barakah nuclear plant project is the symbol of our bilateral cooperation, and I believe that the project will be successful, which will promote the technological prowess and stability of both countries around the globe over the next 100 years.”
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the significance of the Barakh project, saying that, “It`s a strategically important project that opens the possibility of more bilateral relations.” He invited President Moon to the UAE, too, saying, “I hope you can come to the UAE for the building completion ceremony.”
Both leaders discussed cooperation on national defense and on North Korean nuclear issues.
President Moon told Sheikh Mohammed that, “The Akh Unit is made up of some of the most elite troops of Korea, and it`s becoming an exemplary case of mutually beneficial cooperation between both countries, as it also helps to improve the Korean military.”
“Korea will work hard to further develop bilateral cooperation on national defense, focusing on cooperation involving the Akh Unit,” said the president.
In regard to issues on the Korean Peninsula, President Moon expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s continued support for the South Korean government. Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed the UAE’s will to cooperate with Seoul in regard to North Korean nuclear issues.
