President Moon Jae-in and Uzbek President Shavkat Miriziyoyev on April 19 agreed to upgrade their bilateral ties to the level of a special strategic partnership.
The two leaders reached this agreement at their summit held at the presidential palace in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
"I'm very glad that bilateral ties have been elevated to the level of a special strategic partnership. This will serve as a milestone for the enhancement of relations between the two countries," President Moon said.
Miriziyoyev added, "I am certain that President Moon's visit will pave the way for a new chapter in bilateral relations."
Both leaders lauded the mutual benefits of a bilateral project to build a power plant. They also agreed to expand cooperation in high value-added industries, medicine and health care, science and technology, and the public sector.
They also ratified a mutual declaration on their new partnership and signed seven agreements to ensure things such as guarantee of investments and prevention of double taxation.
