Delivering his speech, President Moon said, “My administration stands on the spirit of the historic democracy movement. We should work together to accomplish a broader, deeper and stronger democracy today.”
“All the development and progress that we’ve made over the past three decades stems from the democracy movement of 30 years ago today,” the president stressed.
“I am proud of the fact that the people of Korea have created democracy themselves, a democracy that is admired by the world,” he said.
President Moon Jae-in embraces Park Yeong-ok, mother of Lee Tae-chun, one of the late activists of the June Democracy Movement of 1987, after attending a ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the democracy movement, at Seoul Plaza on June 10.
“The democracy that the people achieved with the June Democracy Movement of 1987 should take root in the lives of each and every individual across the nation. Only when democracy makes a difference in our lives we can say that the June Democracy Movement of 1987 lives on today and in our future,” President Moon said.
“Under this administration, democracy will continue to develop and, also, human rights will continue to expand. Let’s work together to make our lives and the power of democracy more mature,” he emphasized.
