President Moon Jae-in on Dec. 23 will hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing ahead of Korea's eighth trilateral summit with China and Japan in the Chinese city of Chengdu.
Cheong Wa Dae Vice Spokesperson Han Jung-woo on Dec. 19 told a media briefing at the presidential office's media center Chunchugwan, "President Moon is expected to have in-depth discussions with President Xi on boosting Korean-Chinese relations, ways to promote bilateral cooperation and the situation on the Korean Peninsula."
The talks will be their first since June, when both leaders held dialogue on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Osaka, Japan.
After his summit with Xi in the morning, President Moon will travel that afternoon to Chengdu for the trilateral summit and hold talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
"In his talks with Premier Li, President Moon will discuss promotion of tangible cooperation between Seoul and Beijing within the framework of trilateral cooperation," Han said.
"This summit is expected to offer an opportunity to strengthen strategic communication between the two leaders (presidents) and reinforce the bilateral strategic partnership."
