President Moon Jae-in spoke to "CBS This Morning" co-host Norah O`Donnell in his first one-on-one interview since being elected on June 20. He stressed that he and President Trump "share the common goals of resolving the North Korean nuclear issue, establishing a peaceful regime on the Korean Peninsula, and building peace and security in Northeast Asia."

President Moon said, "The two of us will both be in office and working together for the next five years. If the two us could pull together and accomplish these common goals, then I believe this will be the most fruitful accomplishment we could achieve during our terms in office."

When O`Donnell asked if Moon believes that Trump`s greatest diplomatic achievement will be what happens on the Korean Peninsula, the president replied, "Yes, because President Trump has mentioned that North Korea was at the top of his priority list. I highly commend his placing such great importance on the North Korean nuclear issue, and I believe that thanks to his approach and attitude, there`s a possibility of resolving the issue."

President Moon, stressing the importance of engaging in dialogue with North Korea, said, "Dialogue is necessary because the sanctions and pressure placed on Pyongyang by the U.N. Security Council and the international community have failed to solve the problem."

"It is my hope that, through a number of strengthened sanctions and added pressures , we will be able to bring North Korea to the negotiating table within the year," he said.
