President Moon Jae-in on June 1 pledged that his administration will aggressively push ahead with the country's future through the "Korean New Deal," which comprises digital and green themes, based on people-centric values and the vision of an inclusive nation.
In chairing the sixth Emergency Economic Council Meeting at Cheong Wa Dae, he defined the Korean New Deal, which his administration presented to overcome the crisis caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), as a "new project for national development strategy to leap from being a fast-follower to a pace-setter."
New Deal projects were first proposed on April 22 at the council's fifth meeting. Afterwards, President Moon on May 10 mentioned the digital and green components of the New Deal in his special address to mark the third anniversary of his administration.
On comprehensive plans for the New Deal scheduled to be announced next month, he said, "When the master plan is released in July, we will brief the people on the concrete initiatives to be achieved by the end of my administration, along with the long-term and comprehensive big pictures."
