President Moon Jae-in gained another title on July 24, exactly 200 days until the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, as he has been appointed as the Games` newest honorary ambassador at a ceremony in Gangwon-do Province.
In a special event designed to promote the PyeongChang Winter Games, President Moon accepted the offer to become an honorary ambassador for the Winter Olympics from former figure skating champion Kim Yuna and comedian Jung Chan-woo, both of whom are already honorary ambassadors for the Winter Games.
President Moon said, “The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will be the first major international event since the inauguration of our new government.”
“Until now, the organizing committee and the government of Gangwon-do Province have been in charge of preparations, but starting today, with only 200 days to go until the Opening Ceremony, I promise to you that the central government will work together with them in order to successfully host the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games,” said President Moon.
“As an honorary ambassador, I will make an all-out effort so that we can make the upcoming Winter Games a complete success, with pride,” he said. .
“As I believe that all people everywhere are the true owners of the Winter Olympics, I urge each and every one of you to regard yourself as an honorary ambassador for the Games. Take an interest in them and let`s work together in order to make the event a real success,” he said.
In a pledge to make the event true “peace Olympics,” President Moon also urged North Korea to participate in the Winter Games. He said that the International Olympic Committee has also opened its doors to the North Korean Olympic squad.
